LUDHIANA: Finally the health department and municipal corporation have woken up from deep slumber as four more deaths were reported from Dhandari after Sherpur.
The officials were seen in the affected area but the question arises that will these visits will actually benefit the residents? Though health authorities are not confirming the number of deaths, residents claim the toll has reached 11.
After Sherpur, now it’s the Dhandari area where the gastro has started spreading its tentacles as four more deaths have been reported from Prem Nagar area. The deceased have been identified as one-year-old son of Ram Asre of Ward 14, Manish, 4, Muskan,4, and Barsheed, 45, from Ishwar Colony.
These were suffering from gastroenteritis and were taking treatment from private hospitals at Doraha, Sanewal and some were taking treatment at local hospitals. More than 200 people are being affected with the disease. However, the residents alleged that this is one of the ignored parts of the city as nobody bothers to keep a check of what is happening here. Despite numerous reminders authorities do not take any kind of action and wait for the outbreak of disease.
Prakash Yadav of Ishwar colony said only one epidemiologist is visiting the area and with two-or-three doctors, which is not suffice. The medicines that are being distributed by the authorities will not able to cover the entire population of the area. Purvanchal Vikas Parishad president AN Mishra said last night four more deaths were reported from the area and making it 11 in Sherpur and the adjoining wards.
Where according to residents the toll has reached 11, the health department is not ready to say anything.
Talking to TOI Dr GP Mangla , District Epidemiologist said the health department is trying to find the number of deaths and the department is giving the chlorine tablets.
